My BackwardsBush key chain reset itself –why, and how do I reset it?

If you find that your BackwardsBush key chain has reset itself, don’t worry. This does not mean your key chain is broken. Your key chain has reset itself because it has been exposed to a large dose of static electricity. All digital devices, from Blackberry to Palm Pilot face the same problem. This problem is due to an uncommon combination of clothing materials and dry winter environmental conditions. If you find that this has occurred, please follow the simple instructions below to reset your clock. You will need to reset both the Current Time & Date as well as the Future Date. It will take no more than a minute to reset.

How do I re-set my BackwardsBush key chain?

Setting the Current Time & Date:

  1. First, look at the back of your clock and notice the three buttons on the back (M1, SET, M2). Now, turn it over and hold the clock so that you are looking at the front/face of it. From this perspective, the M1 button will be the left most button, SET will be the middle button and M2 will be the button on the right.
  2. Press the SET button on the back of the clock (the middle button). This will bring up what should be/will be the current date (Month, Day & Year). Immediately after pressing SET, press the M1 button (to the left of the SET button). The numbers for the current year will begin to flash. Press the SET button as many times as needed to change the number to the current year. When done, press the M1 button again.
  3. The Month will now begin to flash. Press the SET button until the display shows the current month, and then press M1 again.
  4. The Day of the month is now flashing. Press SET until you are at the current day. Press M1 again.
  5. This will bring you to the current time screen. The Hours will now be flashing. Press SET to advance to the correct hour (set to EST), then press M1. The minutes will now be flashing. Press SET to advance the minutes. Once again, Press the M1 button. Now hit the SET button to make the time AM or PM (represented by either a P or an A in the upper right corner). Press M1 again. The current Date & Time is now set properly. Depending on the time/date, the clock will either display a countdown or all 0s.

Setting your BackwardsBush key chain for the 2009 inauguration (Future Date of January 20, 2009):

  1. Once again, hold the clock so that you are looking at the face/front of it. Press the M2 button (the farthest right button).
  2. Immediately after pressing M2, Press the SET button. The number for the future year will begin to flash. Press SET to advance to the target "year" of 2009. Then press M2.
  3. The number for the Month will now be flashing. Press SET to change to the target month (January) and then press M2 again.
